Go beyond the show with Ada Twist, Scientist: Brainstorm Book

Ada Twist BrainstormADA TWIST, SCIENTIST: BRAINSTORM BOOK (THE QUESTIONEERS), by Abrams Books, Harry N. Abrams, Feb. 1, 2022, Paperback, $12.99 (ages 4-8)

For fans of Ada Twist, Scientist comes a new activity book based on the Netflix show, Ada Twist, Scientist: Brainstorm Book.

Ada Twist, Scientist: Brainstorm Book is a collectible package filled with tons of colorful stickers from the new Netflix show, including stickers of Ada Twist, her friends, and some of her wackiest science experiments. The book also includes fun activities for young scientists and 4 double-sided pull-out posters. —Synopsis provided by Harry N. Abrams

If Ada Twist, Scientist is on constant replay at your house, or if you just want to piggyback off the great picture book written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts, then the Ada Twist, Scientist Brainstorm Book is a great option.

This activity book features prompts for imagining and drawing, mazes, and puzzles. It also incorporates lots of sticker elements. The included posters are easy to remove from the back of the book, and three feature well-known female Black scientists — NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, astronaut Mae Jemison, and ophthalmologist Patricia Bath. The fourth poster features Ada, Iggy and Rosie on one side and Ada with her family on the other.

A few things to keep in mind when purchasing Ada Twist, Scientist Brainstorm Book: This book is based on the Netflix series. The art is inspired by David Roberts’ illustrations rather than created by him. The book skews young. The prompts, puzzles and activities are fairly simple. My 7-year-old was able to quickly buzz through most of it in one sitting.

If you are looking for something more comprehensive, I recommend Ada Twist’s Big Project Book for Stellar Scientists, which was written and illustrated by Beaty and Roberts. It is excellent. At 96 pages, the project book offers an in-depth look at the scientific method through multiple kinds of activities and can be used as a school supplement.
