This interactive board book helps young readers develop listening skills as they learn which words and sounds go together.
Sound buttons correspond with 20 different topics ranging from backyard birds and in the garden to in the oceans and in the desert. Each button features at least four sounds. For example, on an ice floe includes penguins, arctic terns, seals, and elephant seals. In all, readers are introduced to 100 sounds and words. Paired with sweet illustrations, little ones can’t help but be engaged.
Though geared for children ages 0-3, my 9-year-old was still drawn to the sounds in My Big Book of Nature Sounds — who doesn’t like pushing buttons? She quickly moved on, but it proves there’s some interest for older kids, making it a great option for family reading.
