Orris and Timble: Lost and Found is charming early chapter book

By Jessica on June 13, 2025 ages 5 & up, Early Chapter, Early Reader, Middle Grade

Orris and Timble: Lost and Found, by Kate DiCamillo and Carmen Mok, Candlewick, April 29, 2025, Hardcover, $16.99 (ages 5-8)

A rat and an owl’s friendship experiences growing pains in Orris and Timble: Lost and Found, an early chapter book by Kate DiCamillo and Carmen Mok.

Orris the rat and Timble the owl are unlikely friends. Each night, Timble visits Orris in the barn and listens to his stories. But Timble is growing up, and one evening when the owl doesn’t appear as usual Orris wonders if Timble has forgotten him. Is their friendship over? Or could it be that Timble has a tale of his own to share? —Synopsis provided by Candlewick

Lost and Found is the second book in a planned Orris and Timble trilogy. This sweet early chapter book features unexpected friends that just enjoy being with each other. It has a gentle magic and lovely characters that will especially appeal to emerging readers.

Author Kate DiCamillo’s writing is comforting and accessible. And artist Carmen Mok’s illustrations are charming.

This tale of friendship and stories shared and kept to ourselves is one that kids will happily snuggle up with.
