Incredible 3D Bug Hunt is eye-catching picture book

    0
By Jessica on June 16, 2025 ages 3 & up, picture books

THE INCREDIBLE 3D BUG HUNT, By Peggy Nille, Thames & Hudson, June 3, 2025, Hardcover, $24.95 (ages 3 and up)

Discover the wonderful world of insects in The Incredible 3D Bug Hunt, a search-and-find book by Peggy Nille.

Little Ladybug is so bored, so she decides to go and see the world and make new friends. She meets some colorful beetles along the way and is rescued from a big bird by some mantises in a tropical forest. There’s no stopping Little Ladybug and her new friends as they meet spiders, butterflies, frogs, and other little creatures, each more beautiful and fascinating than the last. Little Ladybug soon realizes that the world is full of wonders.

Children will love using the 3D glasses to spot all the bugs Little Ladybug encounters on her journey. The book’s unique use of “ChromaDepth” technology imparts a real sense of depth to the illustrations: the bugs seem to jump forward off the page, while the background jungle recedes. The glasses are different too―instead of having one red and one blue lens they are entirely clear, so the beauty of the original illustrations remains intact. —Synopsis provided by Thames & Hudson

The Incredible 3D Bug Hunt is an interactive book that mixes story with searching. Author-illustrator Peggy Nille combines an upbeat story with colorful and intricate illustrations that are fun to search with or without 3D glasses.

Endnotes include a spread on bug facts, which add a little science to the mix. However, it should be noted that spiders are arachnids and frogs are amphibians not insects. It would have been nice to separate them out from the bugs.

Nonetheless, The Incredible 3D Bug Hunt is a book that little ones will enjoy.

Editor’s note: While the suggested age listed on Amazon for The Incredible 3D Bug Hunt is baby to 4, it’s incorrect. The publisher’s suggested age of 3 to 7 is much more in keeping with the text and nature of the book.
