BabyLit’s War and Peace & Macbeth are delightful board books

    0
By Jessica on July 21, 2025 ages 0-3, picture books

The two latest offerings from the BabyLit team of Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver feature works from some of literature’s greatest authors — Leo Tolstoy and William Shakespeare.

The BabyLit series features introductions to topics from counting and animals to colors and emotions. Released on July 8, War and Peace features opposites and Macbeth features potions. Learn more about these delightful board books below.

WAR AND PEACE: An Opposites Primer, by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver, BabyLit, July 8, 2025, Board Book, $13.99 (ages 0-3)

War and Peace: An Opposites Primer, by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver, introduces toddlers to Tolstoy’s writing, Russian culture, and opposite concepts.

War and Peace: An Opposites Primer exposes little ones to the writing of Leo Tolstoy and to the glamour and darkness of Russian history with terms such as hot and cold; poor and rich; fast and slow; busy and idle, and happy and sad. With a nod to the length of the adult version of War and Peace, this board book version has 20 extra pages that includes quotations from the story. —Synopsis provided by BabyLit

Not only does this chunky board book teach opposites, but it also provides context through the quotations, which builds vocabulary. Kids will enjoy the different patterns featured on the quotation pages and the inviting illustrations of opposites.

Macbeth: A Potions Primer, by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver, BabyLit, July 8, 2025, Board Book, $11.99 (ages 0-3)

Macbeth: A Potions Primer, by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver, introduces toddlers to Shakespeare’s writing and his famous witches.

Macbeth: A Potions Primer exposes little ones to the language of Shakespeare and the iconic witches from Macbeth, with their frenzied dancing and filling of the cauldron with eye of newt and toe of frog. The book also includes a bonus glossary of the potion ingredients with the names people from Shakespeare’s time would know along with the contemporary common herbal names. —Synopsis provided by BabyLit

“Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble.” Macbeth is a rhythmic read that’s fun for little ones and their parents. As with all the BabyLit books, the illustrations in this one are spot-on. And the final spread with all the potion ingredients is not only fun but informative.
