David LaRochelle’s interactive books take kids on draw & erase adventures

By Jessica on January 26, 2025 ages 4 & up, picture books

David LaRochelle, Geisel Award–winning author of See the Cat and its sequels, offers up interactive fun with his new Draw & Erase Adventure series. The first two books involve corralling a rambunctious sheep and hitting the high seas with a friendly pirate. LaRochelle’s bright text and charming illustrations are spot on, and I don’t know any kid that wouldn’t love a chance to draw in a book and not get in trouble. These fun books are constructed from heavy stock, and the pages are coated to make erasing easy.

THIS SHEEP NEEDS YOUR HELP! (A Draw & Erase Adventure), by David LaRochelle, Candlewick, Jan. 7, 2025, Board Book, $10.99 (Ages 4-7)

BAAA! Are you ready to rescue this woolly wanderer from a preposterous pack of predicaments? Quick—pick up the dry-erase marker that comes with this book and put your drawing skills to work. This sassy sheep will tell you everything she needs, including a skateboard, a wolf-proof disguise, and enough party hats for all the sheep in her flock. It’s up to YOU to complete the book. Once you’re done, just wipe off the pages and test your drawing prowess again. —Synopsis provided by Candlewick

THIS PIRATE NEEDS YOUR HELP! (A Draw & Erase Adventure), by David LaRochelle, Candlewick, Jan. 7, 2025, Board Book, $10.99 (Ages 4-7)
