Mini Review: Everything You Need to Ace English Language Arts

    0
By Jessica on February 7, 2025 ages 10 & up, Middle Grade, nonfiction

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO ACE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS IN ONE BIG FAT NOTEBOOK, 2ND EDITION: The Complete Middle School Study Guide (Big Fat Notebooks), by Workman Publishing, Workman Kids; 2nd edition, Jan. 28, 2025, Paperback, $16.99 (ages 10 and up)

With chapters on all the essential ELA topics—grammar, sentence structure, figurative language, textual analysis, writing essays, building arguments, and more—it covers every skill a middle schooler needs to read, write, and analyze their way through middle school English. Big Fat Notebooks break down the big topics into bite sized pieces with clear and accessible language, key vocabulary defined, annotated examples and excerpts from a diverse array of literature, and instructional diagrams and doodles.

This second edition includes an all-new media literacy chapter covering everything from disinformation and bias to deep fakes and clickbait—giving middle schoolers essential guidance on how to navigate this oversaturated world of manipulative media.  —Synopsis provided by Workman Kids

Everything You Need to Ace English Language Arts in One Big Fat Notebook is one of 16 guides in Workman’s Big Fat Notebooks series. This is the second edition of the and that’s no surprise. It’s not only informative, it’s fun, too. It’s the type of book that I’d have loved as a kid — it breaks concepts down and explains them in easy-to-understand terms.
