A young mouse learns she has the same magical abilities as her favorite fabled hero in Bravepaw and the Heartstone of Alluria by L. M. Wilkinson and Lavanya Naidu.
Titch Proudleaf has always dreamed of adventure, just like in the legends of gallant mouse hero Bravepaw. But nothing ever happens to small mice living in quiet villages…until a lost prince and dark magic find their way into the Plateau. When Titch saves the prince from the brink of death, she finds out that the world of Alluria is in grave danger, and by a twist of fate, it’s up to her to make things right.
And so, equipped with a magical staff that sometimes works and accompanied by her best friend Huckleberry, Titch sets out on a quest that will change her life and the world of Alluria forever.
But Titch knows she’s no Bravepaw—how can she ever hope to live up to the legend? —Synopsis provided by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Bravepaw and the Heartstone of Alluria is the charming first book in lower middle-grade fantasy series written by L. M. Wilkinson and illustrated by Lavanya Naidu.
Titch is a delightful main character. She dreams of exploits but becomes the reluctant hero when danger is thrust upon her. She’s quick-witted and, along with her best friend, Huckleberry, has a tender heart.
Though 190 pages, Bravepaw and the Heartstone of Alluria feels much shorter. Larger font, and graphic elements paired with black-and-white illustrations throughout break up the text, making it accessible to readers newer to chapter books and those who traditionally struggle.
Bravepaw and the Heartstone of Alluria is a strong introduction to fantasy. There’s plenty of adventure and heart to easily make this a favorite series.
