STORM CALLER, by Nisha J. Tuli, Entangled: Mayhem Books, Sept. 1, 2026, Hardcover, $24.99 (young adult, ages 16 and up)
A girl living in storm-wrecked Manhattan where the elite rule through legacy could tear everything apart with a forbidden romance in Nisha J. Tuli’s Storm Caller.
Poet Graves has only ever wanted to be free. But no matter where she turns, she’s held captive―by a power she doesn’t understand, a truth she no longer believes in, and a love she can’t deny.
As Poet is drawn further into Rook’s world, his secrets force her to question who she can trust. But when friends turn into enemies, enemies prove to be allies, and the place that was once a safe harbor is revealed as the eye of the storm, Poet’s only choice is to fight for what she believes in.
When New Manhattan’s darkest secrets refuse to stay hidden, the cause Poet and Rook fight for will be called into question. The answers are out there…and they could destroy everything. —Synopsis provided by Mayhem Books
Storm Caller is the sequel to Nisha J. Tuli’s Storm Breaker, which hit shelves in May. The planned trilogy should be read in order.
The story takes place in New Manhattan, years after global warming destroyed much of the planet. The people of New Manhattan regularly face deadly lightning storms, but luckily the Storm Guard is able to channel the lightning and provide energy for the city.
When last we saw her, Poet had been outed as a Keeper (someone who is addicted to the storms who will eventually become mentally unstable) just before escaping the city with Rook. Storm Caller picks up immediately where Storm Breaker left off.
Poet continues to be a strong protagonist, constantly learning and growing. But it’s Rook’s character that shows the most depth in Storm Breaker. Here, readers get a glimpse of the brooding outsider in his own environment, and the change is a welcome one.
Author Nisha J. Tuli changes the scope of her story with Storm Caller. As Poet and Rook go deeper into the Solitudes, you gain a greater understanding of the world and how people have learned to survive. Tuli’s pacing is strong, and higher stakes draw you in immediately.
Storm Breaker is a fast-moving dystopian romance that features plenty of twists and turns. And there’s a big twist/cliff hanger that no one will see coming in the final pages. I look forward to reading the third book.
Sensitivity note: While the first book featured slow-burn attraction, culminating in intimate moments that are not overly graphic but leave the characters, and most readers, wanting more, the second book gets pretty straight to the point. This time around “consensual sexual activities are shown on the page,” and though the language is “flowery,” for lack of a better word, there’s no question about what’s going on.
Other elements that make this book appropriate for ages 16 and up include violence, death, abduction, drugging and graphic language.
