Hawaii and some long-overdue time off

Taking advantage of a rainy day.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted — you may or may not have noticed. That’s because up until yesterday, I was on a long-overdue vacation with my husband.

It’s been three years since our last vacation (honeymoon). Layoffs, job changes for both of us and an intensive master’s degree program for my husband left us with little time and a strained budget.

But that’s over now. Things have slowed down — at least for a little while — and we celebrated graduation and our anniversary with a trip to Hawaii. It was the perfect time to unplug from the things that keep us busy and focus on doing nothing.  Hence the lack of reviews/interviews over the past few weeks.

While we did “unplug” from some things, it’s hard to disconnect completely. So you shouldn’t be too surprised to hear that two iPhones, two iPads and one MacBook Pro made the trip with us. So did three physical books — which, thanks to the humidity, I’m afraid will never look the same again — and my digital library.

With plane rides, rainy days and lounging around, I got a lot of reading done. And I was finally able to get to some books that I’ve been trying to work into my already-too-full schedule.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to get caught up with all my picture, middle-grade and YA reviews (fingers crossed).

I’m looking forward to once again sharing my thoughts on the best reading around — that for young readers. To all of you who have kept with me and those of you stopping in for the first time: mahalo.
