The Path is delightful celebration of community, nature

By Jessica on September 1, 2026 ages 4 & up, picture books

THE PATH, by Pamela Paul and Qin Leng, G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers, Aug. 25, 2026, Hardcover, $19.99 (ages 4-8)

Follow members of a community as they enjoy a day out in nature in The Path, a picture book by Pamela Paul and Qin Leng.

It’s a busy evening at the local park and all sorts of people are taking advantage of the precious natural space. Whether biking or rollerblading, birding or dog walking, there should be room enough for everyone . . . so why does it seem like someone else is always in the way?

Suddenly, a murmuration of starlings erupts from the treetops—one giant winged cloud swirls and spins across the sky, forcing everyone to stop and look up. And after this small, spectacular moment, the park’s visitors begin to interact with a new appreciation for what nature and community add to their lives. —Synopsis provided by G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers

The Path is a delightful look at one community that echoes to communities around the world. The book starts with each person in their own worlds, colliding one by one, until a murmuration of starlings stops them all in their tracks.

Author Pamela Paul text is spot on, capturing voices from multiple generations and backgrounds. Qin Leng’s watercolor illustrations are full of movement and energy. Young readers will love exploring each image, and adults will appreciate the many walks of life.
