Dakota Crumb Tiny Treasure HunterDAKOTA CRUMB: TINY TREASURE HUNTER, by Jamie Michalak and Kelly Murphy, Candlewick, June 23, 2021, Hardcover, $17.99 (ages 3-7)

A museum is transformed into a place of mystery and adventure in Dakota Crumb: Tiny Treasure Hunter, by Jamie Michalak and Kelly Murphy.

As the clock in the great museum tick-tocks past midnight, a little mouse with a sack and a treasure map scurries past the guards. Plucky and intrepid Dakota Crumb scours the museum for artifacts, including the famous Purple Jewel of Cairo (a gumdrop stashed in an exhibit). By day, the little mouse shares her carefully curated finds with fellow tiny creatures that flock to Miss Crumb’s tiny Mousehole Museum. —Synopsis provided by Candlewick

Dakota Crumb: Tiny Treasure Hunter is one of those book within a book within a book books that kids love. At first, it’s a thrilling tale of a treasure hunter. Then, it’s the story of a mouse museum curator. And finally, it becomes an interactive treasure hunt for readers.

With lively text and picture-in-picture illustrations, young readers will be enchanted by this fast-moving quest. It’s designed to allow readers to take as little or as much time as they want with it, making it a good option for a large age range (3-7).
