Miffy and the Impressionists is delightful introduction to art

    0
By Jessica on June 6, 2026 ages 3 & up, picture books

MIFFY AND THE IMPRESSIONISTS (Miffy and the Artists, 2), by Dick Bruna, Thames & Hudson, May 19, 2026, Hardcover, $16.95 (ages 3-7)

introduce young readers to the impressionist movement in Miffy and the Impressionists, a picture book by Dick Bruna.

In what must be the cutest introduction to impressionism, Miffy discovers the work of iconic artists including Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Mary Cassatt, among others.

The book uses clever pairings of Dick Bruna’s Miffy illustrations with iconic artworks to neatly capture the essence of each artwork. Combining a simple statement about each artist with questions that encourage children to look more closely at the artwork on the page, Miffy and the Impressionists is a warm welcome into the world of art for young children and their families. —Synopsis provided by Thames & Hudson

If you haven’t met her yet, Miffy is an adorable fictional rabbit who is in a series of picture books drawn and written by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. Miffy was first introduced in 1955, and has been featured in more than 120 picture books.

In Miffy and the Impressionists, readers see how the impressionists captured real life. The side-by-side images of Miffy and the paintings offer a direct comparison that helps make art more accessible. It’s a fun read sure to inspire imagination.
