Backmatter includes more on why it took so long for the war to end and hat etiquette. Information on Washington’s position as a slaveholder is an excellent addition and helps humanize Washington, flaws and all.
While the publisher’s suggested age range for When George Washington Bowed to the Nation is 9 and up, it will appeal to listeners as young as 6 or 7 and should be accessible to readers ages 8 and up. It’s a great choice as we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday.
