Lisa Loeb’s ‘Silly Sing-Along’ offers adventure for the whole family

“LISA LOEB’S SILLY SING-ALONG:  THE DISAPPOINTING PANCAKE AND OTHER ZANY SONGS,” by Lisa Loeb, illustrated by Ryan O’Rourke, Sterling Children’s Books, October 4, 2011, $14.95 (ages 5 and up)

Enjoyed at home or on-the-go, Lisa Loeb’s book and CD of children’s songs is sure to please both parents and youngsters with its upbeat music and entertaining lyrics.  Finding children’s music that engages the young without irritating adult listeners can be a tricky business, but Lisa Loeb’s collection of six well-known songs, as well as her four original creations, pulls off the job quite nicely.

All children love to learn a silly song and sing it over and over again. Combining a book full of ridiculous lyrics with a well-produced CD of matching tunes, Lisa Loeb offers an adventure for the whole family.  Each song’s lyrics are illustrated with eye-catching images, and many are accompanied with relevent activities, recipes, games, or questions. Though much of the book may be more suitable for readers 5 and up, younger children will be more than happy to join in for the sing-along.

Lisa Loeb’s humorous offering of quirky tunes would make a great gift for Christmas as well as a everyday addition to the any family’s children’s music collection. By combining her music with a book, listeners are able to sing-along more quickly and come up with some zany ideas of their own in the process.

***This guest review is by Jamie Wood, a mother of three who enjoys brainwashing her children to read as many books as they can in one day. She does this by sitting on the couch and telling them she can’t talk now because she’s reading a book. So far all has gone well, and they are happily enjoying reading time together.
